Newsroom AI

I propose to build Newsroom AI, a mobile-friendly web application designed to simplify the process of managing news stories from assignment to publication approval.

Editors will create story assignments, set deadlines and assign reporters. Reporters will submit drafts and track their progress. The system will provide AI-assisted headline and summary suggestions to support journalists, while editors retain full control over reviewing, correcting and approving content.

The platform will include assignment tracking, draft management, status updates, an editorial approval workflow and a record of revisions. It will be designed for low-bandwidth environments, with a simple interface and minimal data usage.

The initial prototype will use sample articles and test accounts. The project will seek feedback from journalists or editors before a controlled pilot with a suitable Zimbabwean media organisation. Privacy, security and responsible AI use will be built into the design.

Problem solved

A low-bandwidth newsroom workflow platform that helps Zimbabwean media teams manage story assignments, reporter drafts and editorial approvals, with AI-assisted summaries and headline suggestions.
